On July 9, 2002 the Calgary Flames signed free agent Martin Sonnenberg (LW) and Darcy Verot (LW), both who previously played with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

On July 3, 2002 the Calgary Flames signed free agent Martin Gelinas (LW), who previously played with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Calgary Flames acquired Chris Drury (C) and Stephane Yelle (C) from the Colorado Avalanche for Derek Morris (D) and  Jeff Shantz (C) and Dean McAmmond (C) on Oct. 2, 2002 .

The Calgary Flames acquired Ladislav Kohn (F) from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations on Sept. 12, 2002.

The Calgary Flames acquired Jamie McLennan (G) from the Minnesota Wild for a 2002 ninth-round draft pick on June 23, 2002.
