Boris Mironov (D) was suspended indefinitely on Dec. 6, 2002 after intentionally missing a Dec. 3, 2002 practice with the team. Mironov has been complaining about a lack of playing time and wants to be traded immediately.
Alexander Karpovtsev (D) will be sidelined for the next six weeks after suffering from a fractured right ankle when blocking a shot by Brett Hull on Nov. 5, 2002. Karpovtsev is considered to be one of the premier blueliners in the league.
The Chicago Blackhawks acquired Andrei Nikolishin (C) and Chris Simon (LW) from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Michael Nylander (C), a third-round draft pick in the 2003 NHL draft, and a conditional third-round draft pick in the 2004 draft on Nov. 2, 2002.
