Free Agent Acquisitions
On Oct. 19, 2002 the Mavericks signed free agent swingman Walt Williams, who previously played with the Houston Rockets.
On Sept. 21, 2002 the Mavericks signed free agent Popeye Jones (F), who previously played with the Washington Wizards.
On July 31, 2002 the Mavericks re-signed free agent Raef LaFrentz (F).
Trades
The Mavericks acquired guards Nick Van Exel (G) , Avery Johnson (G), Tariq Abdul-Wahad (G) and Raef LaFrentz (C) from the Denver Nuggets for forwards Juwan Howard (F), Donnell Harvey (F), Tim Hardaway (G) and a 2002 first-round pick on February 22, 2002.
