Charlie Ward (G) returned to the New York Knicks on Dec. 2, 2002. But, not as a starter. Howard Eisley (G) who has replaced Ward in the starting lineup since his 8-game absence will remain the starter until coach Don Chaney believes Ward is ready to be a starter.

Free Agent Acquisitions

On Sept. 30, 2002 the Knicks signed free agents Todd Lindeman (C, waived Oct. 22, 2002),  Jim James (F), Mark Pope (F), Toby Bailey (G), Danny Johnson (G, waived Oct. 25, 2002), and Jemeil Rich (G, waived Oct. 24, 2002).

On August 8, 2002 the Knicks signed free agent Michael Doleac (C), who previously played with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

On July 9, 2002 the Knicks signed Frank Williams (G), a first-round pick, to a multi-year contract.
