On July 26, 2002 the 76ers signed free agent Greg Buckner (G), who previously played with the Dallas Mavericks.
On July 26, 2002 the 76ers signed free agent Monty Williams (F), who previously played with the Orlando Magic.

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Dikembe Mutombo (C) to the New Jersey Nets for Keith Van Horn (F) and Todd MacCulloch (C) on August 7, 2002.
