For the first time in NBA history, an entire roster full of players have made significant donations to their local United Way, as the Phoenix Suns committed nearly $1.3 million to the charitable organization. After signing his new contract with the Suns, Shawn Marion, donated $1 million dollars to the United Way. Each of Marion's teammates contributed a minimum of $10,000 to one of the most well-known charities in the world. “Once again, the Phoenix Suns have proven to be a team not only second to none in the Valley, but also in the nation,” said Paul Luna, president of the Valley of the Sun United Way. “We are extremely appreciative of their on-going support.” (Nov. 15, 2002)
Jake Tsakalidis (C) was placed on the injured reserve list with a bulging disk of the lower spine on Nov. 28, 2002. With an extra space on the roster the Suns activated Alton Ford (F) from the injured reserve list.
