The Blazers Community Builders employee volunteer program, including Blazers players, coaches, staff, Blazers Alumni, the Portland Fire's Stacey Thomas, BlazerDancers, broadcasters and Wheel Blazers hosted the fifth annual Holiday Express on Dec. 3, 2002. The Blazers partner with non-profit agencies such as Albina Head Start, Urban League of Portland and Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland, Community Transitional School and Central City Concern to give free Christmas trees to families in need during the holiday season. All recipients also received 10 pounds of food with their Christmas tree.

Free Agent Acquisitions
On Sept 21, 2002 the Blazers signed free agent Arvydas Sabonis (C), who didn't play due to injury in 2001-2.
On August 13, 2002 the Blazers signed free agent Jeff McInnis (G), who previously played with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Trades
The Trailblazers acquired Antonio Daniels (G), Charles Smith (G) and Amal McCaskill (C) from the San Antonio Spurs for guards Steve Kerr (G), Erick Barkley (G) and a second-round pick in the 2003 draft on August 6, 2002.
The Trailblazers acquired Derek Anderson (G) and Steve Kerr (G) from the San Antonio Spurs for Steve Smith (G) on July 26, 2001.
