Michael Jordan (G) announced on Nov. 28, 2002, he will permanently retire after this season. "There will be no want. I'm 100 percent sure that after this (season) I'm done." Jordan still believes he can take the young Wizards to the playoffs this season. Jordan will resume his partial ownership status with the Wizards following the end of the season.

Free Agent Acquisitions

On Sept. 10, 2002 the Wizards signed free agent Bryon Russell (F), who previously played with the Utah Jazz, to a two-year contract.

On July 11, 2002 the Wizards signed first round pick Juan Dixon (G) to a three-year contract.

On July 11, 2002 the Wizards signed Jared Jeffries (F), one of their first-round picks, to a three-year contract with a club option.

Trades

The Washington Wizards acquired George McCloud (F) and cash from the Denver Nuggets for Chris Whitney (G) on Oct. 26, 2002.

The Washington Wizards traded Richard Hamilton (G), Hubert Davis (G), and Bobby Simmons (F) to the Detroit Pistons for Jerry Stackhouse (G), Brian Cardinal (F), and Ratko Varda (F) on Sept. 12, 2002.

The Washington Wizards traded Courtney Alexander (G) to the New Orleans Hornets for the 17th overall pick in the 2002 draft on June 27, 2002. The Wizards used the pick to draft Maryland's Juan Dixon.
